Little Boxes

The cubicle has been the butt of many jokes since it was introduced, earning such endearing nicknames as "Veal Fattening Pen" thanks to the author/artist Douglas Coupland. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone in their 30's that hasn't spent at least a couple years in one. I certainly did...although the time is just a surreal blur in retrospect.

The whole office-culture of living in little boxes with "square" bosses has shown up a lot in pop culture over the last decade, but it has stayed fresh, probably because like any culture it continues to evolve. One of the more interesting turns over the last year or two is the wave of office dwellers buying miniature cubicles to play with on their desks. I've got loads of friends still on the inside that go nuts for The Cubes™ playsets made by the brilliant folks at Accoutrements.

These things just add to the surreal aspect of living in that world. With the included sticker set of random words, you can give your worker a title such as "Domestic Information Processor" or "Inter Information Monitor." Ann (seen above) is McCarty Photoworks' new "Level C Marketing Consultant." She likes cats.
