Meltdown

On Sunset Boulevard not too far from me is a gold mine of popular culture. A fixture of Hollywood for over a decade, Meltdown is where you'll find geek brethren catching a buzz off the smell of fresh ink and vinyl. It's a store where comics and toys are embraced in their true form, as works of accessible art.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of "Mel," the alien mascot designed by legendary cartoonist Dan Clowes (Ghost World, Art School Confidential). Collaborating with the Devilrobots design studio in Tokyo, Meltdown turned to Japanese sculptor Monster 5 to bring Mel to life. The resulting "Melto-Fu" figure is seen above on his return home to Sunset.

I'm back home too and thawing out from New York Toy Fair. I had a great time romping around in the snow while seeing old friends and meeting a lot of new ones!! If the weather kept you home, don't worry. Summer and San Diego Comic Con will be here before you know it. :)
