Pink Elephant Amanda Visell’s art is full of pink elephants and the people that see them, in this case a hobo by the name of Drunky McSkunky. I recently traveled with Amanda and her Switcheroo co-conspirator Michelle Valigura on an adventure through downtown Los Angeles. I had one night to photograph a prototype of her upcoming vinyl figure being produced by Munky King. It was being sent to the factory in China the next day. Despite the imminent threat of being jumped by crazies and a run-in with the railroad police, we survived with a great shot for the next issue of Hi Fructose magazine. I thought you'd enjoy this early sneak peek. The Pink Elephant with bonus Drunky McSkunky will be out in time for Amanda's show at Munky King Melrose in December. In the meantime, both she and Michelle will be at the Mesa Museum for Contemporary Arts for the opening of the Beyond the Cell exhibition on September 14th
While on the subject of exhibitions, be sure to visit the Pasadena Museum of California Art next month! Opening Thursday October 11th is BEYOND ULTRAMAN: Seven Artists Explore the Vinyl Frontier. The exhibition focuses on California artists that use toys as a medium for personal expression. I'm very flattered to be included with fellow artists Tim Biskup, Gary Baseman, David Horvath, Sun-Min Kim, David Gonzales, and Mark Nagata. A catalog of the exhibition will be available from Baby Tattoo. Hope
to see you there!
